About

ClockWork Accounting is a different kind of blog. I, as the author, don’t write about the ground-breaking news within the accounting world, instead I write about accounting topics that don’t really change over time and aren’t talked about much (think the ugly stepsister). These topics like invoice factoring, telecom auditing, and accounting software are still important to the accounting world, but most accounting bloggers don’t want to blog about them; they would prefer writing about more exciting topics like international convergence and PCAOB appointments (and frankly I don’t blame them).

Why I Don’t Cover The Latest News

There are two reasons why I don’t cover the latest and greatest in accounting: (1) other people can do it better than I can and (2) I’m trying to fill a need.

There are a lot of blogs out there by professional accountants and professors with a lot more experience than yours truly that cover what is happening with the SEC, FASB, PCAOB, IASB, AAA, IMA, AICPA, etc. etc. I find these topics fascinating and frequently visit these blogs to see what is happening in the accounting world. However, at this stage in my career I simply can not provide the same quality of information as these seasoned veterans. That leaves me to write about what I call “the accounting leftovers.” Somebody has to write about them and I’m the type of guy that doesn’t mind performing tasks that nobody else wants. In fact I get great satisfaction out of performing tough tasks that require above all else, consistency.

The real motivation behind ClockWork Accounting is that I feel like I’m fulfilling a need. The topics on this site have been chosen carefully after weeks and months of research. I spent time looking for what people are searching for on the Internet in the accounting world. My goal was to find 100 accounting-related phrases that were searched for several hundred times a month, but were not covered very often by someone with an accounting background (if you cover one of the same topics as me I apologize in advance, I could only browse through so many sites before my mind went completely numb). Realize that a phrase that gets searched for several hundred times a month is a very, very small market. So, in short, I’m providing general information (that can be hard to find anywhere else) about 100 small niches and that is why my site may seem a bit … scattered. I’ve added categories and a search tool to help for navigation purposes.

Some of my Credentials:

Nate has his Masters in Accountancy degree from Brigham Young University in Provo Utah. He enjoys just about all accounting related topics; hence, the smorgasbord of topics covered on this site. He has experience working for the Big 4 and is contemplating earning his PhD degree in Accounting.
