Carl's Introduction to Accounting

"Hi, I'm Carl."

“Hi there, I’m Carl. I hope to formally meet you in a few lessons. For now I just want you to know that I consider myself an entrepreneur and not an accountant. However, after spending some time right here at ClockWork Accounting.com I have become a believer in the importance of accounting for business people of all types.”

“You see I started out wanting to run my own business and I quickly learned that I needed to understand the basics of accounting if I was going to survive in the business world. The owner of ClockWork Accounting (Professor Nate) took the time to teach me basic accounting principles. Together we’ve come up with a course that we think will help you learn accounting as well. But first you should read Professor Nate’s opening thoughts about accounting. They are found below.”

Professor Nate: “Thanks for the introduction Carl. Carl is one of my favorite students and it brings a tear to my eye to see him understanding the importance of accounting. Accounting is down-right important. If you take the time to understand the purpose of accounting, then your current view of accounting as a boring subject will change dramatically. Most people find the business world fascinating, and accounting is the stuff that the business world is made of. If you’ve ever had a dream to start your own business (and many people have), then you’ll definitely find accounting interesting and useful. Even if you have no desire to start your own business, accounting is useful for anyone who plans on being in the business world. I’ve never talked with an accounting major who wished he had studied something else; however, I have talked with quite a few business people who wished they had majored in accounting (or at least known more accounting).”

In the next few lessons you will learn what a business is and why accounting is important.
